Ingrown Toenail Surgery Using the Phenolisation Method

What are Ingrown Toenails?

Ingrowing toenails can be very painful and affect daily activities and comfort in shoes. It occurs when the edge of the nail digs into the flesh and pushes it’s way through; causing redness, swelling, infection and a lot of pain. There are many causes of ingrown toenails. These can include a curved nail shape, the way you walk and pressure on the toe due to tight fitting shoes and improper nail cutting.

Healthy vs Ingrown Toenail

Can They Be Fixed?

Fortunately for those who have this painful toe nail problem, it can be fixed permanently.

Dr Azarian is a podiatric surgeon and has refined her technique over the years to do this procedure in the comfort of her Perth podiatric surgery clinic (located in Karrinyup), without the need for a general anaesthetic or hospital stay.

How Does the Phenolisation Method Work?

The procedure is done with the toe numb and only takes 10 minutes to perform. Once the toe has been numbed there is no pain or discomfort and in majority of cases there is no pain after the procedure either. Dr Azarian can provide you with skin numbing cream, a tablet or an inhaler to relax you if you feel very anxious.

The ingrowing toe nail  procedure involves removing the edge that is digging into the skin and removing it permanently. The amount removed varies based on how curved the toenail is. Dr Azarian ensures the cosmetic appearance of the toenail is maintained.

What are the Benefits?

This technique is great because there are no stitches or skin cuts, no skin scars, the foot can be washed  and normal shoes can be worn as soon as you feel ready.

If you or a loved one have had ingrown toenails book a consultation with Dr Mina Azarian to see if this procedure is right for you. Please note all surgical procedures carry risks.
